Our policies are designed to ensure excellence and integrity in all our endeavours. They include standards for conducting innovative research, delivering high-quality education, and providing effective clinical training.
Adhering to these guidelines helps us maintain alignment with both institutional and regulatory requirements, fostering a supportive environment for academic and professional growth.
Research Policies & Guidelines
Our primary goal is to establish an innovative research infrastructure that advances public healthcare knowledge and supports continuous medical education. To align with these objectives, research projects may need to be reviewed and discussed with the EUC Research Ethics Committee.
MedIC members are expected to be familiar with and adhere to the Cyprus National Bioethics Committee’s regulations and consult with them as needed. The Cyprus Bioethics Committee is organized into three separate committees, governed by Law (L.150 (I)/2001) [http://www.bioethics.gov.cy]. In accordance with Cypriot law, all research conducted under MedIC’s auspices must comply with statutory requirements, including the Bioethics Law (N.150 (I)/2001 and 53 (I)/2010), the Protection of Natural Persons Law (125(I)/2018), and the Protection of Patients’ Rights Law (1(I) of 2005). These laws establish the legal framework for the Cyprus National Bioethics Committee.
Key guidelines include:
- Researchers across all disciplines must adhere to the research ethics guidelines established by their professional associations.
- MedIC collaborators are required to comply with statutory requirements from their local bioethics committee before advancing their projects, with some exceptions.
- Research Councils, charitable trusts, and other funding bodies typically require confirmation that research proposals involving human participants have been approved by the University Research Ethics Committee or a similar body. Additionally, compliance with their guidelines may be audited.
